Led by Shawnee Mission East’s newspaper and website, as well as the Maize South Middle School yearbook, 24 Kansas publications earned Best of Show honors at the JEA/NSPA national convention Nov. 11-14 in Kansas City, Mo.
The Harbinger newspaper and the student news website, smeharbinger.net, both from Shawnee Mission East, earned first place in their respective categories, Newspapers 17+ Pages and Large School Website. Judges named The Stampede from Maize South Middle as the best in the Junior High Yearbook category.
The convention drew nearly 4,500 students from hundreds of schools around the country. Schools submitted their publications for the Best of Show competition during the registration process.
