Five Kansas publications win CSPA Gold Crowns

Yearbooks from Maize South Middle School, Shawnee Mission Northwest High School and Shawnee Mission East High School, along with Web sites from both SM Northwest and SM East, earned Gold Crown awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.

The awards were announced at CSPA’s annual spring convention in New York, N.Y.

In addition, the Goddard High School newspaper and the Shawnee Mission North High School yearbook earned silver crowns.

In all, 44 publications nationwide earned Gold Crowns and 110 earned Silver Crowns.

Six Kansas high school yearbook students also won first-place awards in CSPA’s Gold Circle individual competition, and twenty-five other students earned second- or third-place awards, or certificates of merit. Here’s the complete list of Kansas students, headed by Bailey Reimer, last year’s editor of the Shawnee Mission Northwest Lair and now a KSPA office assistant.
