Timing of Regional Results

Today’s regional competition at the University of Kansas wraps a great journalism week for KSPA and the state of Kansas. Throughout Scholastic Journalism Week, Kansas students and advisers shone bright.

On Monday we announced three students from across the state who earned designation as Kansas Student Journalists of the Year. Monday also marked the first submission ever of entries to a regional contest through digital submission. During the middle of the week, dedicated contest coordinators from Hays, Emporia, Manhattan, Wichita, Pittsburg and Lawrence put the final and detailed touches on the Regional contests.

Five different universities welcomed students on campus for the contests on Thursday. These contest coordinators deserve special recognition for the time dedicated to scholastic journalism. It can be a nearly thanks-less job and it is extraordinarily difficult. From KSPA, thank you to . . .

  • Kelly Glasscock at KSU
  • Ron Feemster at ESU
  • Gerard Attoun at PSU
  • Amy Devault at WSU
  • Latisha Haag and Linn Ann Huntington at FHSU

Many of these coordinators are operating in their first year in this role. What a great service to the advisers and students of Kansas!

During the week, emails and tweets have asked when Regional results will be posted. In fairness to all students from many various contest locations, results will be posted when they are complete and final. As previously announced through the KSPA website, this date is set for March 13. We want to be sure that students from one region are not slighted by later notice than other areas. This is a decision discussed among the president, vice president and executive director both before the contest and during this week. Like all things, we can revisit this policy if we find a fair and manageable solution.

KSPA is so glad that students and advisers are excited to hear the results. We understand that tons of hard work and preparation went into the contest. We will get full results to you as soon as possible.

Again, this is a proud week for KSPA because of the great work that all of you did: photos submitted online, stories revised at regionals, amazing editorial cartoons penned, glorious designs exported. I am so proud to be a part of this grand organization. Thanks so much for the amazing atmosphere of excellence, competition and journalism.

Sincerely,

Thomas Sig
