Chat about High School Journalist of the Year

The 2014 national Journalist of the Year, Taylor Blatchford, will be hosting a chat this Wednesday, January 14 @ 7 p.m. CST to answer questions about the Journalist of the Year contest. You can either tweet questions ahead of time using #HSJOY or ask questions live during the chat.

To access the chat, click this link: http://jea.org/?p=7617

This is open to anyone to participate, but we hope Kansas students who plan to apply to the Kansas Student Journalist will join in. Applicants will find this chat extremely helpful.

The winners of the KSJOY competition in three classifications (1A-2A, 3A-4A, 5A-6A) will each receive a scholarship of  $750. (Last year, no one in the 1A-2A classification applied.) The Kansas Student Journalist of the Year will receive an additional $500 and will represent the state in the national Journalist of the Year competition.

The national runners-up (there are generally six of them) will each receive $850 and the winner will take home $3,000. The winner and the runners-up will be announced at the national convention in Denver.

Remember, the deadline for applying for the Kansas Student Journalist of the Year just three weeks away: midnight on Feb. 1.
