Winter Storm Q — which may be remembered as the Blizzard of ’13 — has forced KSPA to move its Lawrence regional scheduled for Friday from the University of Kansas to individual schools.
Each of the schools scheduled to participate in the KU regional will now mail its carry-in contests ASAP to KSPA offices in Lawrence, and they’ll conduct the live contests at their schools when classes resume. KSPA adopted a new policy last year allowing schools to participate in contests even if they couldn’t make it to the site because of weather. This is the first year the policy has come into play.
This is the fourth KSPA regional to be moved off-site. Thursday regionals in Emporia, Manhattan and Hays were moved off-site yesterday. The Pittsburg regional went off without a hitch on Wednesday. No decision has been reached on the Friday regional set for Wichita, where heavy snows fell Wednesday.
