The 2013 regional contests scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 21 at Kansas State University, Emporia State University and Fort Hays State University have been changed to off-site contests because of heavy snow that is already plaguing much of Kansas.
Students registered for contests in Manhattan, Emporia and Hays will now compete at their schools, per KSPA policy, and mail their entries to KSU, ESU or FHSU at the addresses listed on the policy.
Contest coordinators Kelly Furnas from KSU, Max McCoy from ESU and Marcella Marez from FHSU, along with KSPA Executive Director Jeff Browne made the decisions Wednesday because snow had already reduced visibility to zero in Hays, and forecasts call for anywhere from 18 to 25 inches of snow in Hays through Thursday. Snowfall totals in Manhattan and Emporia are expected to reach 10 to 16 inches by Thursday afternoon.
