Two Kansas news sites named online Pacemaker finalists

Two news websites from Kansas high schools — Harbinger Online from Shawnee Mission East and Jagwire News Online from Mill Valley — have been named finalists in the National Scholastic Press Association’s Pacemaker competition. Both websites will be up for scholastic journalism’s highest honor in April at the NSPA national convention in Seattle.

The two news sites were among 34 named finalists. Harbinger Online earned the Pacemaker award last year, and was the only KSPA All-Kansas website in 2010-2011.

Here are our state’s finalists:

  • Harbinger Online, Shawnee Mission East; Duncan McLachlan and Jeff Cole, editors; C. Dow Tate, adviser.
  • Jagwire News Online, Mill Valley; Sarah Darby and Kaitlin Rounds, editors; Kathy Habiger, adviser.

Earlier in February, yearbooks from three Shawnee Mission schools — East, North and Northwest — were among 55 yearbooks named Pacemaker finalists.
