Kansas again has reaped more than its share of national awards, garnering five newspaper and one broadcast Pacemaker finalist awards from the National Scholastic Press Association.
The Pacemaker is often considered the “Pulitzer Prize of scholastic journalism,” and every year Kansas outpaces other states of similar size or larger with its number of finalists. This year’s Pacemaker judging evaluated publications and broadcasts from the 2009-2010 school year.
This year’s Newspaper Pacemaker finalists include:

Nationally, 44 newspapers earned finalist distinction from NSPA. Texas (24.7 million population) and California (37 million) each had seven finalists, the only states that eclipsed the number from Kansas (2.8 million population).
