BV West, SM East named online Pacemaker finalists

Two Kansas student Web publications earned Online Pacemaker finalist designation Thursday from the National Scholastic Press Association.

BVWNews.com from Blue Valley West High School and The Harbinger from Shawnee Mission East High School earned the distinction. Only 13 publications nationwide from schools with 1,500 or more students were so honored. Thirteen small schools also earned finalist designation. In all, 132 online publications entered the Pacemaker competition.

Beth Shulz and Kaiti Xouris are BVWNews.com’s co-editors, and Mike Dunlap advises the publication. The BVWNews.com staff work in a converged environment with the school’s broadcast team, Jagged Edge TV, advised by Steven Cortez.

Taylor Haviland and Michael Stolle are the online Harbinger’s co-editors, and Dow Tate serves as adviser.

Pacemakers will be awarded April 17 at the NSPA’s national convention in Portland, Ore.
