Emma Pennington of Shawnee Mission East was judged first place for newsmagazines and Jordan McEntee of Blue Valley High School was awarded first place in newspapers for the innaugural Design of the Month contest.
Pennington’s spread, which reviewed local frozen yogurt stores, was praised by judges for its good use of color and photos and is a “great example of designing a long story to not seem so long.”
McEntee’s spread, which coupled a story about breast cancer awareness and a comparison of jeans vs. jeggings, was complimented for its sidebar and design variety.
Other entries that placed in the September contest include:
- 2nd Place News Magazine: Tyler Absher and Stephanie Spicer (Shawnee Mission Northwest)
- 3rd Place (Tie) News Magazine: Shauna Greenlee (Maize High School)
- 3rd Place (Tie) News Magazine: Evan Nichols (Shawnee Mission East)
